About Us

Weed & Seed is a comprehensive strategy, not simply a program, that was established by the U.S. Department of Justice in 1991. Weed & Seed is designed to assist communities in bringing together people and resocurces to prevent and control crime, while improving the quality of life.

Four Components

    Rome Weed & Seed is comprised of four main components:
  • Law Enforcement
  • Community Policing
  • Prevention, Intervention, Treatment (P.I.T.)
  • Neighborhood Restoration
Goals and Objectives

    Rome Weed & Seed will carry out a five year strategy that will concentrate on the following:
  • Reducing drug incident crimes and domestic violence within the community.
  • Developing a strong Police and resident relationship through Neighborhood Watch Groups and Community Policing efforts.
  • Providing programming to residents to prevent, intervene, and treat those in need.
  • Increasing homeownership and economic opportunities for residents within the community.
The E.P.I.C. Vision

    The EPIC Vision of Weed & Seed is to live and work in a community that:
  • Encompasses a safe, clean and enjoyable environment.
  • Promotes healthy, viable and prosperous lifestyles.
  • Includes all members of the Community.
  • Creates unity among citizens from all walks of life.

Target Area

The Weed & Seed Target Area is comprised of approximately 1.55 square miles and a population of 7,689 people. The specific street boundaries are outlined below:

  • North: The Northern boundary begins at the Intersection of Jervis Avenue and Turin Road. The boundary runs westerly from Turin Road to Gifford Road.
  • West: The Western boundary begins at the intersection of Gifford Road and Jervis Avenue and runs south along Gifford until it reaches an area parallel and north of Driveway. At this time it runs easterly along that plane and intersects with Levitt Street. Once it reaches Levitt Street (just north of Indian Creek) it runs South on Levitt Street to its end boundary at the intersection of Levitt Street and Sate Highway 46.
  • South: The Southern boundary begins at the intersection of Levitt Street and State Highway 46 and runs East on State Highway 46. At its intersection with Jay Street it proceeds southerly along the highway to incorporate a one block radius south of Highway 46 and remains easterly along that plane until its intersection with James Street. At this time it run northerly until it again runs into State Highway 46. Please note that this area is not broken down by street names and incorporates a stretch of shopping mall areas only. At the time it intersects Highway 46 it then proceeds northerly at the junction of 46 and Black River Blvd.
  • East: The Eastern boundary begins at the intersection of James Street, Route 46, and Black River Blvd. It runs northerly up Black River Blvd. until it intersects with East Bloomfield and then runs westerly until it intersects with North James Street. At this time it runs northerly along North James Street until it intersects with Garden Street and then runs westerly to its end boundary of Turin Road.
